Jonny,
I believe that you are new to role playing, and very accustomed to roll playing. From personal experience, it is sometimes very difficult to make the transition when you are used to one or the other. My first GM (back in 1998) liked the sound of the dice hitting the table, so the game was all about the rules and characters statistics. When I first attended collage I joined a different player group (in 2001) and that GM loved to create drama. I participated in a game under him that we played three times a week for four months before I rolled dice for an in-game reason. After experiencing both extremes I decided I like both aspects of the game and as a GM I aim for the center.
In this game, it is my goal to create memorable encounters that involve no dice, and others that involve lots of dice. The reason I said "that would be cheating" earlier with a smiley face after it was because, after I realized that none of you had holsters, I had created a fun non-combat encounter that would provide the needed items. Because I will not make players do anything, I was trying to playfully get you to resolve the situation in-game to run through what I had created. (Since I am telling you about it I will use the situation later in the game.)
Also, in my experience, the player's characters have to interact with each other and develop their own group dynamics. If one character is always causing trouble, becomes a liability, or does not mesh with the others I will not force the group to stay together. Though you can play you character however you want, so can the other players. Please remember this as you work through the personality of your character and the actions that he takes.
So far it has been a very rocky start. But I am willing to give you one more chance. I have changed your characters Dexterity and Intelligence both to 13, and exchanged the Shake it Off feat for Skill Training (Knowledge [galactic lore]) feat as you requested. The change to the characters Dexterity effected his reflex defense, ranged attack, and pilot skill. This is the last time that I am modifying the character, any further changes to the statics will have to be through level progression.
