Atlanta is the minis capital of the world. I think we've shown that now.
How many world champions do you have? Chicago has twice as many
Heck I (alone, by myself) have won as many regional titles as all the Atlanta guys combined. Yeah - I said it. Boo-ya! (friendly posturing in case this was not clear)
Yeah, but we've only been seriously playing for almost exactly 3 years now, which means just 2 GenCons. So our GenCon championship win percentage is 50%!!
I got 5th place today, nudged out of the top 4 by Ricky based on strength of schedule. I'll have something written up about it in the next couple of days or so.
EDIT: Alright, finally got some time to write this sucker up.
My squad was, as seen above, Ebony and Ivory (named as such because I had to think of one on the spot and I was using one regular white Echani and one with her clothes painted black by Weeks). My map was Ravaged Base.
Game 1 I played against Cliff Ricciardi, a really cool (and really good!) kid from Charlotte. He had a Mando team with a bunch of Scouts as well as Jaina, so it was about as bad of a matchup as it could be for me. He took me by surprise by seeing one opening I gave him and killing an unactivated Echani with Jaina instead of going after GOWK, like I expected him to, which would have let me take a nice volley of shots with the Echani. He also rolled GREAT, with his scouts needing 18s to hit GOWK (GOWK unactivated, Atris meditating) and he hit 5 out of 8, and 3 got through SSM (including rerolls!). Otherwise the game was pretty straightforward, with Jaina killing GOWK and the Scouts cleaning up, since I wasn't able to attack them without getting too close to be safe due to Cloaked.
Game 2 I get paired with Andy Bumpus, who is playing a single Lancer squad with GGDAC. We play on Ravaged Base, but he makes me take the outside, which sucks. However, round 2 I'm able to tow one of my Echanis up to the Lancer and take shots at it. Needing 10s, 2 get through for 40 damage. He Pawns it and kills the Echani, an Ugnaught, and then rolls a miss on R2, so he doesn't die. I finish the Lancer off and start running GOWK and my JWM down the field. He makes one bold move by Pawning an 86 to run 12, then another 6 to get to my second Echani in the back, but I Evade on of the shots so she lives, and gets to kill the 86 on her turn. Grievous gets down to 20 HP left before he kills the JWM, and GOWK kills the second 86. Finally GOWK is able to kill Grievous and start going after Sidious, who had taken a little damage from the Echani also. I am able to clean up for 200 points. 1-1 with 3 points.
Game 3 I get paired with Graham (ugh). Ravaged Base with me on the outside again. Round 2 I pick off a pair of his Mouse Droids, but that's all he gives me. He does a very ballsy move which I knew he had but didn't expect him to do by Levitating Kyle and running him up to get a Grenades 40 on R2AD and BOTH Handmaidens (I really should have put something in the way....). If both Handmaidens live, Kyle gets screwed and I probably clinch the game. If one of the two lives, it's a very interesting game, because he traded that kill for a bunch of early damage on Kyle. If both die, he clinches the game.... After the saves, not only did both Handmaidens die, but so did R2. So at that point it's pretty much cleanup for him. 1-2, 3 points.
Game 4 I play Nick Ferguson. Again I get the inside of Ravaged Base. This game is pretty straightforward, with me picking off his Anakin in Round 1. Atris keeps his Han from being useful, and he has to just run Jaina and Kyle up to close the gap, while I shoot them down. 2-2, 6 points.
Game 5 I play against Paul, who is playing another Echani-based squad. Round 2 he gets shots on R2 and kills him as well as a bunch of shots on one of my Handmaidens, but she was awesome and Evaded ALL of them. That's a big turning point, because than I shoot back at the two of his Echanis that shot at me, and manage to kill them both. After that it's just a matter of GOWK and the JWM running forward with GOWK deflecting a whole bunch of shots and eventually cutting down the others. I get a full win, so I'm 3-2, 9 points.
That's good enough to get me to 5th place (not 4th due to SoS). I was happy with that, considering I wasn't playing what I considered a very good squad, and had an awful round 1 matchup and got the awful set of saves against Graham in round 3. Also, places 1-4 were all Atlanta players, none of which had won a Regional yet this year, so I was definitely happy that it was going to be one of them.
A very fun trip, thanks to everyone that made it happen, and congrats to Greg for finally being able to close the deal on a Regional! Also thanks to Graham for letting me borrow pretty much my entire squad (and Nathan for his Salacious Crumb!), because I had left all my stuff at my parent's house and didn't realize that until 3 AM Saturday morning.
