I think the News forums should be incorporated into the General heading or at the very least moved up. As it stands most of the threads that should be in News are put in General and anything put in News goes largely unnoticed.

Agreed. Put it at the top, or under the General heading. I am guilty of posting in General what should have gone in "News"
