Cristophsis (Broken) - Found in the Clone Wars Starter Pack

Map Review

Once again, this is a map that does well to satisfy all Star Wars Miniatures enthusiasts. First of all, the artwork is beautiful. The layout of the map is extremely nice as well, with virtually all of the necessary components for a good skirmish map. Although the player who starts on the right has a slight advantage, it is very easy to build squads that can perform well from either side. The broken bridge makes it difficult to reach gambit from the left side starting areas unless you have Flight or some form of increased movement. However, any players trying to score gambit points will be exposing their pieces to shots from just about anywhere on the map. There are also some very nice hair-thin lines of fire across this map, and those who truly master this map will leave their opponents very few places to safely hide. While the openness makes this look like a shooter's heaven, melee pieces can find plenty of ways to advance along the upper portion of the map, and unless pieces expose themselves along the bottom or the middle, ranged pieces will discover that they have to close in to be able to get line of sight on their opponents, effective balancing this map quite well.

This map is DCI legal for 100, 150, or 200 point games as of February 13, 2009.

Train Station (a.k.a. Freight Transit Station) - Found in the Clone Wars Starter Pack

At first glance, this map looks perfect for melee-centered squads. While it is true that the myriad of doors helps to cut down the long range shots from non-melee pieces, it also causes games on this map to be nearly impossible to predict. Finding spaces that will be completely safe from enemy fire is a tough chore, because one or two doors can often make a serious difference. Both sides of the map are virtually identical, with only minor differences in the location of low cover squares.

Cristophsis (Intact) - Found in the Clone Wars Battles Scenario Pack

Map Review

We don't have too many official maps that work together in concert, so it is really great to have this map and combine it with the Cristophsis (Broken) version for large-scale play. You can match the maps up in just about any way and they work quite well. The difference between these two maps is that the 'Intact' version has a full walkway on the left side, and there are none of the scattered pieces of crystals along the bottom of the map. Because of this, the bottom third of the map is wide-open, with not a bit of cover at all. So, while the 'Intact' version is a bit more balanced than the 'Broken' counterpart, it is far less interesting, and can cause more stale gameplay in competitive situations. Opponents are forced to take the majority of their battle to the upper section of the map, unless they are using pieces that cannot be targeted due to some special abilities.

This map is not DCI legal at any point level.

Muunilist Commerce Plaza - Found in Clone Wars Battles Scenario Pack

Map Review

Many players have enjoyed the Muunilist map from the Clone Strike starter, and this one is proving to be just as good. At first glance, it is easy to see the similarities between the two maps, with some of the rooms and layout being exactly identical. However, the center of the map is vastly different, and therefore causes this map to require a completely different type of gameplay. Unlike the original Muunilist, melee squads will have a tough time on this map, as there is no way for them to easily control the gambit area. Mobile non-melee attackers and pieces that cannot be targetted unless you are adjacent; those are the ones that reign supreme here. It is certainly possible to win with squads that do not have either of these elements though, and that is one of the things that pushes this map to the top of the pile as one of the best of the maps to be recently released.

This map is DCI legal for 100, 150, or 200 point games as of February 13, 2009.
