Hi,

Can someone please explain to me the financials of the DOTF Virtual set/Kickstarter?

I paid $20 for the set (but haven't received it yet), and as I understand it it cost around $8 to print, minus 10% or so in fees, and then shipping costs round the world.

I don't believe the Pointmen got any of this money so I am assuming many of them have worn shipping costs to onforward the sets to players in their countries. Naturally some have asked for more money to assist with this onforwarding cost.

Have the people that donated to the kickstarter effectively bought sets for other players, who then got a set for free? $20 should cover the printing, the shipping and the fees with money leftover.

I see a few posts like "I paid for one set but my buddy has just started playing so can I have 2?"

Given that the set is available for a free download, is it too much to expect that anyone wanting a set for themselves coughs up $20, or downloads and prints the cards themselves?

I would rather the leftover money go to the designers/playtesters for their time, the pointmen to cover shipping, or to help with future sets, than for people to get a set for free. After all, the set is available to download.

Some might argue that not everyone can afford the $20. Fair enough - download it for free.

Any response or explananation would be appreciated, thanks.

I would also be willing to donate more than $20 for future sets if $20 doesn't leave enough money to cover shipping costs etc. After all, the guys that have designed and distributed the cards should not be out of pocket.

I don't know if anything has been figured out yet but it sounds like we're not going with Kickstarter again due to their hefty fees for using it.

This can not be done for legal reasons. The money donated to produce the set needs to be tracked and accounted for so that if Lucas ask the designers can shot that they did not make any money (so they can not be sued).
