Post subject:  Making the Missouri Regional Happen

Ok so fellow Missourians.... ok well Oklahomans and Kansasans can participate too...

To get ready for the Regional this year I would like to know a couple of things.

1. Where is the best location to get the most players. Because quite honestly we are not probably going to do Springfield again this year

Right now we are looking at 2 locations:

1. Lamar, Mo - right off of 71 about 2 hours away from KC and about 4 hours away from Tulsa. 50 Minutes from Joplin.

2. Bolivar, Mo - 25 miles north of Springfield for those of you who have travelled to Springfield for last years.

What I am wanting to know if we held it in Lamar would that bring more folks from KC?? We have never really had a presence from St Louis so I am not really looking at them. It is a wash for Tulsa as it is the same distance. There are still plenty of food choices in Lamar. So would that work????

I know having it in Lamar would add numbers by getting our non travelling Lamar players in for it. I think we would also get all of Bolivar. But would we see a rise in the KC players because that would be terrific.

Anyways please post here and give us your thoughts we need to finalize a location and get the ball rolling.

Well Bolivar would always be better for me and everyone else who is in the two play groups here in town. I also think I speak for the lot of us when I say that Lamar can be done as well.

Dean--either one would work pretty well for me. Bolivar has the advantage of being closer to Springfield if I decide to stay with my folks; Lamar has the advantage of being an easier day-trip from KC (and really, I could still hit Springfield if I really wanted). I guess that if pressed I'd prefer Bolivar, but it's not a strong preference, and I'll be there either way. I'll try to remember to drop Chris a line so he can chime in if he has a preference.

Last year we had three from KC, and I'd be surprised if we did any better than that this year. At this point only Chris and I play frequently (well, Reuben does when he's through town, but he's a Texan now). We'll push it on the KC listserv whenever regionals approach, but I'd be surprised if that drums up a ton of new players. Maybe you'd get a KC person in Lamar that would think that Bolivar is too far, but it's really only like a 30-45 minute difference, right? Probably not a dealbreaker either way if someone is motivated to go.

I guess what I'm saying is, I wouldn't let KC weigh too heavily on the decision if there are also other factors at play.

If we go in Bolivar I have a room or two in my house people can stay a night in.

ok so does it benfit kansas or oklahoma?

That will matter too.

If we could get another 8 folks it maybe worth it to have it in Lamar.

I really dont care either way but Iwould love to see some faces I have not seen before.

I'll see if I can get some Wichita players (besides me) to make it.

I live in Bolivar so that is my first choice obviously. But if Lamar means a better turnout then I am all for it.

I live in Lebanon so Bolivar would be closer for me. However, if more people would show up for a tournament in Lamar I would be OK with driving there.

Well Dean I say if we don't start getting more feedback we should just look at which place has a nicer place to play. Location! Location! Location!

Ben said it pretty well from the KC perspective. I doubt you will get more than the two of us at the regional. I ran into a couple KS players at the PlanetCon. They haven't been playing at all, much less did they know about the v-set. So, that's probably a good indication that they won't be coming to the regional. Thus others convenience should probably take a priority.

Having said that, Lamar would be more convenient for me because I could drop my family off at the in-laws in Neosho. Bolivar - I would probably have to make it a rush in/out trip, which would likely make it harder for me to come.

Well, that is fine, because I ran into a major hiccup in the Bolivar area and there is no place for us all to play. Hospital meeting rooms are solidly booked up. I was calling Dean later today to talk to him, but I'll stick it here, first. "Dean, work your magic!" :)

Wanted to see if there is any new information here. This is the only location on my list without any info on it...

Well, I wont be able to go(again) but wish those that are able to attend to have a great time...maybe if its in lamar I might be able to stop in and say hi...very iffy might though. Work and family have me all sorts of jammed up with my scheduling.
